The second annual Cyfrwng conference was held at the University of Glamorgan between the 22–24 April 2005.
The heads of all of the major broadcasters in Wales were key note speakers at the conference. Menna Richards, Controller of BBC Wales, Professor Elan Closs Stephens Chair of S4C and Roger Lewis MD of ITV Wales were among those leading discussions on the future of Welsh programme making in the digital age at the event.
The conference, attended by academics, students and media industry workers, addressed key issues facing the media in Wales today such as broadcasting regulation, the development of Welsh-language sports broadcasting, minority language journalism, and a discussion of Welsh sitcoms in the company of High Hopes and Satellite City writer and actor, Boyd Clack.
Friday night saw the timely bringing together of cast members, crew and director of 1978 film Grand Slam at the UGC Cinema in Cardiff. Whilst the Cyfrwng Siân Phillips 2005 Award was presented to film historian and critic Dave Berry at the conference dinner held at The Townhouse in Cardiff on Saturday night.
The second issue of Cyfrwng: Media Wales Journal – Cyfnodolyn Cyfryngau Cymru was also launched at the conference along with the George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling in the company of members of the Evans family.
In 2006 the Cyfrwng conference will be held at the University of Wales, Lampeter.
